  • The Chilean novel of drawing (excerpt)

... Claudia Missana seeks to find a closed circuit that forces her to stop at the edge of the abyss. Here appears a new notion of exile. It is exile in the interior of the country. For example, exile from the field of drawing. Therefore, these works refer to the forced migrations that occur within the academic apparatuses of reproduction of drawing knowledge. A question of factual powers operating under the plot of significant speculations.
Now then: each of Claudia Missana's drawings will be made in the regular format of a sheet of watercolor paper, cut in eight. Each fragment will be juxtaposed, causing a line effect, at the juncture. That is, looking for a kind of conjugality of the line.
... The truth is that the result is similar to the reiterated silence of a Japanese garden, where the notion of emptiness is fundamental. But in this case emptiness is synonymous with suspense of meaning. The parallel lines are distributed according to the perturbation of the short perpendicular strokes that operate as visual attractors, making evident the graphic noise appropriate to the affirmation of continuity.
